EMÍLIO DOMINGOS

Emílio Domingos

Emílio Domingos is a filmmaker, social scientist, researcher, screenwriter and producer. He works mainly with documentaries. He holds a degree in Social Science from UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), with an emphasis on Visual Anthropology, Urban Culture and Youth, and a Master’s degree in Culture and Territorialities from UFF (Fluminense Federal University).  He is a curator and a mediator at the Documenta-se Film Society. He is also a curator of the Mostra Internacional do Filme Etnográfico [International Festival of Ethnographic Films] and of the Festival Visões Periféricas [Peripheral Visions Festival]. Currently, he teaches the Research, Treatment and Script subject as a professor at the Graduate Program in Documentary Cinema of Fundação Getúlio Vargas [Getulio Vargas Foundation] (FGV-RJ). As a filmmaker, he directed the feature films “ Favela é Moda” [Favela is Fashion ], winner of Festival do Rio’s Audience Award for Best Feature Documentary (2019); “Deixa Na Régua” [Fresh Cutz], winner of Festival do Rio’s Special Jury Prize of the Brazil Première’s Novos Rumos Section (2016); "A Batalha do Passinho" [The Passinho Battle], winner of Festival do Rio's Novos Rumos section (2012); and "L.A.P.A.", winner of the Best Film Award of the Câmera Mundo Festival in the Netherlands (2008).

JANAÍNA OLIVEIRA

Janaína Oliveira holds a Ph.D. in History. She is the founder of FICINE - Fórum Itinerante de Cinema Negro [Itinerant Forum of Black Cinema]. She is a consultant for Locarno Film Festival and is the current programmer of Flaherty Seminar 2020. She is a member of the curating team of the Encontro de Cinema Negro Zózimo Bulbul [Black Cinema Meeting Zózimo Bulbul] and was responsible for the “Soul in the Eye – Talks, Performance and Masterclass” programme at the International Film Festical Rotterdam - IFFR. As of 2011, she actively participates in FESPACO, the Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou, and in JCFA, the Journée Cinématographique de la Femme Africaine d’Image, both of which take place in Burkina Faso. Recently, she was a curator of the two editions of the International Film Festival Plateau in Cape Verde. In Brazil, she was a curator of the African Films section of FINCAR - International Women Filmmakers Festival in Pernambuco, for the 7th edition of Cachoeira Doc in Bahia, for the Diálogos Ausentes [Absent Conversations] by Itaú Cultural - módulo de Audiovisual in São Paulo and for the 8th Semana dos Realizadores in Rio de Janeiro.
